Borders and Boundaries Studies is a modern, interdisciplinary, English-language course of study for people who want to pursue their life goals and interests around border issues. It is one of the few courses of this kind in the world and is unique in Poland. The course of study is conducted in cooperation with other universities located in borderlands. Boundaries are one of the most interesting problems of the contemporary world. The hybrid lectures shall be taught by the best experts from Poland and Central European countries. They will provide graduates with a broad and practical knowledge of the past and present of border regions and Boundaries, their significance, economy, opportunities and threats.
Skills gained in the courses of the degree programme:
You will learn:
- interdisciplinary methods for studying political, economic, environmental, social and cultural processes that take place nowadays and have taken place over the centuries in the creation of different types of borders and borderlands;
- how to acquire and analyse information about the above-mentioned processes, how to understand and interpret the processes of border creation;
- how to discover multifaceted processes shaping borderlines of ideas, statehood, nationality and cross-border activities;
- how to explain the causes of phenomena occurring at borders and borderlands in the past and present.

Our graduates work as:
- specialists in research institutions, cultural and educational institutions, local action groups (LAGs) dealing with knowledge dissemination, NGOs – dealing with borderland issues, especially in the aspect of cultural transfer and shared cultural heritage,
- animators of cross-border activities, international cooperation,
- specialists in institutions, governmental and self-governmental administrations at various levels dealing with cross-border cooperation,
- promotion and cultural departments of state and local administration institutions,
- museums and other cultural heritage institutions.
Enrolment Criteria:
1st degree (undergraduate) studies graduation diploma – diploma grade
Candidates must have a command of English sufficient to study in this language.
The course is conducted at the Institute of History, one of the strongest scientific units of the University of Szczecin, awarded the highest possible grade in the last evaluation of scientific units in Poland (A+), in cooperation with selected specialists – theoreticians and practitioners from other European and Polish universities.
Graduates in Baltic Region Studies are able to continue their education in doctoral school.
