Social Sciences an interdisciplinary degree programme in English. It includes various perspectives: political science and security studies, sociology, cultural studies, pedagogy, media studies as well as economics, psychology and international studies. In the teaching model that we offer, students work with teachers and researchers from various fields of study. We focus on various phenomena that make up a contemporary social life, such as: culture, politics, economics, social research, communication, research theory and practice, history, sustainable development, labour market, etc.
SKILLS GAINED IN THE COURSE OF THE DEGREE PROGRAMME
The graduates of Social Sciences degree programme will know:
• the basic psychological testing methods
• how to use available diagnostic tools and how to design new ones that are reliable in psychometric terms
• how to understand other people’s behaviour, emotions and motivations
• how to solve problems of an individual, a group or problems at the social level.
SAMPLE COURSES:
New Media and Communication, Computer Analysis of Social Sciences Data, Social Psychology, Methodology of Social Sciences: qualitative and quantitative methods, Migration and Labour Market, Memory Studies, Research and Learning Tutoring, Environmental Communication & Mediation, Organizational Culture, Storytelling and social communication.
CAREERS AND EMPLOYMENT:
The acquired skills enable the programme graduates to take up employment, e.g. in:
• self-government and government administration bodies (mainly in departments dealing with relations with civil society organisations, social affairs, promotion)
• entities that deal with the administration and edition of social media, mass media and publishing houses
• institutions working with civil society organisations
• promotion and marketing departments of private companies.
ADMISSIONS CRITERIA:
Group I: modern foreign language – English
Group II (select one subject): any subject
Group III (select one subject): Polish
Candidates must have a command of English sufficient to study in this language.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Social issues are complex and multidimensional, thus trying to understand, organise and possibly change them is a challenge requiring the involvement of various scientific disciplines. Studying Social Sciences is a response to the challenges of the future society, and in particular to the need to select a reliable and truthful message in a world of excess of information (often false or contradictory).
