CAREER
Appropriate functioning of every economy is dependent on broadly understood energetics, therefore providing safety of energetic becomes a priority. A dynamic development of the country is connected with a global increase of energy demand, including thermal energy coming from both kinds of sources: non – renewable and renewable.
Regardless of the developed scenarios of economical growth, the energy demand will be gradually increasing but it may differ from the dynamics of the development. The region of Opole is distinguished by a powerful economical and investment potential and together with the energetic development, a strongly highlighted issue in the strategy of the region development, functioning of large energetic companies is significantly supported. It should be remembered, though, that energetic development and especially thermal energetics is closely connected with the environmental engineering.
The graduate of the department of energetics and environmental engineering possesses the knowledge of energetic issues, thermal technology and technical sciences. He/she knows the problematics of sustainable development of the country and a growing importance of problems connected with ecological generation, industry and energy distribution. He/she is prepared to work in companies dealing with exploitation in the area of energetic systems and companies connected with production, processing, transmission and distribution of energy, especially thermal energy and district heating. He/she is a specialist in the sphere of energetic problems in the local government units. He/she is able to apply computer technology in the control of technological processes and company management. The graduate of the energetic and environmental engineering department is a specialist coping with limiting a negative impact of industrial processes on the environment, rational management of energy or waste who creates and reinforces the relation with the environment, works in research and development units, in administration, design offices and many other companies, who also searches for the most profitable relations within the human – industry – nature entity.
The graduates of the energetics and environmental engineering department may apply for building qualifications in the area of networks, installations and heating appliances as well as ventilation, gas, water or sewer system ones. Additionally, they may apply for building qualifications in the area of building constructions.
FIRST CYCLE DEGREE PROGRAMME
The programme lasts 7 semesters in the daily, full – time mode - S (on site) and 7 semesters in the part – time mode - NS (extramural).
The studies are completed with obtaining a Bachelor degree (inżynier).
Among the basic educational contents there are e.g.: mathematics, ergonomics and safety of work, physics, engineering graphics, information technologies, biology of the environment with elements of ecology.
The facultative educational contents cover e.g. such blocks of subjects as:
- engineering design with the use of CAD programmes,
- construction and exploitation materials,
- mechanics and strength of materials
- thermodynamics
- liquid mechanics,
- air protection,
- environment protection in energetic and sustainable sources of energy,
- water – sewage management and waste management,
- sanitary networks and installation,
- exploitation of energetic installation,
- functioning of an energetic company on the market,
- devastated areas restructuring,
- space information systems.
The degree programme subjects are complemented with the general and humanistic-social ones as well as the subjects from the area of information technology and programming, intellectual ownership protection and basics of economy and negotiation in business.
Majors:
- thermal energetics (S, NS).
A graduate of that Major, due to the acquired knowledge is very well prepared to work professionally in energetic companies especially connected with generation and distribution of thermal energy. The obtained knowledge and skills enable to hold managerial positions in industrial and district heating sectors. He/she may also work in local administration and property administration being responsible for rationalization of thermal energy utilisation. He/she may apply computer technology in controlling technological processes and company management.
- Environmental engineering (S, NS).
The graduate of the environmental engineering Major possesses the necessary qualifications to be employed in a broadly understood environment protection sector. The acquired engineering knowledge enables to apply technical and technological solution effectively in rational use of natural environment. He/she can apply that knowledge in limiting the negative impact of industry functioning on the surroundings. He/she knows what engineering solution shall be used to maintain the natural environment in its balanced state and not interfering with its possibilities of its own self regulation and self-cleaning. In case of natural environment devastation, he/she can pinpoint the solutions for the reversing of its effects.
The graduate of this environmental engineering Major may find employment e.g. in companies and local governments on positions where the knowledge connected with sustained utilization of natural environment is required.
